Bad - *A bit short *Difficulty spikes combined with slightly floaty controls and lead to occasional frustration. I ther's any negatives it's the difficulty spikes and shortness of the game however the game is very replayable with lost of things to find and collect. Switching between 2D and 3D sections as the game does could have been a disaster but works well. Level design is also excellent with plenty of surprises and hidden areas. The graphics are just lovely and the levels burst with colour and personality. They're a bit floaty but one I got used to them it wasn't a real problem. I must admit that when I first played it the controls didn't feel quite right. The original Castle of Illusion was one of the few classic Megadrive platformers that I missed back in the day so this remake was the perfect The original Castle of Illusion was one of the few classic Megadrive platformers that I missed back in the day so this remake was the perfect chance to catch up! I obviously can't compare it to the original but I do know that this is a fine platformer with a very modern feel. The minute that we beat the game we started a second playthrough. ![]() This was a great purchase for $15 and I highly recommend it to anyone that played the original, anyone that is a big Disney fan, or any father/mother looking to have a fun gaming experience with their son or daughter. I hadn't played a true platformer in years and forgot how much fun they could be. The final boss fight against the witch took me about 15-20 tries, but was extremely satisfying once we beat her. I thought that the controls were tight and easy to handle, and what a joy to play a game with only two buttons for a change! Jump and throw, that's it! The story kept us intrigued and although it wasn't too hard, there were a few sections that almost had me throwing my controller, just like the good ole days. Each level is so unique and a complete blast to play. It took us probably about 4-5 hours to get through, which I thought was the perfect length. It was a little too tough for my daughter right now, so I basically played the entire thing with her glued to my side the whole time. ![]() The game is absolutely beautiful and a joy to look at. When this remake was released, I downloaded it mainly so that my 5 year old daughter (who loves Disney) and I could play it together. As of our last check in February of 2022 the game remained available on Steam, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and mobile devices.I absolutely LOVE this game! I've been a gamer since I got my Atari 2600 when I was 6 and even though I had a Sega Genesis, I never played this game back in the day. The game was next delisted on Xbox 360 around February of 2019 but was relisted later the same year, by September 8th. Thanks to Delisted reader Gantann for the tip. Neither Sega or Disney appear to have announced the game’s return or given an explanation. ![]() On March 30th, 2017 Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse was relisted on Steam and also reappeared on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, presumably around the same date. As further confirmation, the Android, iOS and Windows versions of the game remain available and published directly by Disney. In fact, September 2nd is almost three years to the day after the game’s original release for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. No explanation was publicly stated but given the game’s mediocre reception and Disney properties it was most certainly due to a licensing deal that Sega couldn’t justify renegotiating. The post was later updated with an exact date of Friday, September 2nd and confirmation from Xbox’s Major Nelson that the game had been added to Xbox One backward compatibility. On August 30th, 2016, Game Informer revealed that Sega had confirmed that their 2013 remake of Castle of Illusion would be delisted “by the end of this week”.
